R.I.P. Schrodinger's Cat Etc.

It has been fun procrastinating and not keeping up with this blog, but it's time to call it quits.  Oh no, don't worry.  I'm starting a new blog.  I will post the the new link here when I figure out what the hell it's going to be called.  So, yeah.  There's that.

Let's try this again.

I have tried a few times in the last several years to reboot this blog.  It's been tough to say the least.  Motivation is a problem for me and always has been.  That's why I'm here.  I WILL do this.  Maybe.  I recently applied to be a contributing writer for Tulane's Hullabaloo.  I hope to write entertainment reviews.  For those of you who don't know, this is what I did for UNO's Driftwood.

Well, enough babbling.  Time to get started on my next post.

2012/Zombie theories

With the release of the Hollywood epic, "2012," the end of the world has been on many people's minds. Everyone has different theories as to how it will happen, and today I would like to present a few of my own theories.

First of all, I am confident there will be zombies. As for how the zombies will take over? Again, I have my own theories.

THEORY NUMERO UNO!!!!

Swine flu. That's right, the H1N1 virus. Either through natural evolution or mutation brought on by the government, I fear that this news making virus will change into something that not only kills all those infected, but then re-animates their bodies and turns them into flesh eating zombies. Makes sense to me!

THEORY THE SECOND!!!!

Large Hadron Collider. The 17 mile long particle smasher just doesn't seem like a good idea. There are many theories surrounding this device that all lead to the end of the world. One theory I have is that during the first official smashing, a rip in space-time will occur and open a whole to another dimension. And what will come out of that hole? Why, zombies/zombie virus of course....or giant man-eating monsters. OR BOTH!!!!

Those are my two big ones. Now, onto my zombie plans!!!!

My original zombie plan was to escape to Alaska and live in my friend's basement. Surrounded by water and ice, zombies would have a tough time getting to me. There I can live off the land and ride out the zombie reign.

After much thought and consideration, I have developed a much more profitable zombie plan. BECOME A PIRATE!!!! I live on the coast, therefore I shall steal a sailboat and take to the sea. ZOMBIES CAN'T SWIM!!!!!! I will live off the sea, establish a crew, and possible establish a pirate island. Ah yes, a pirate life for me.

Update

I have not gotten around to watching "Where the Wild Things Are" again in order to finish my review, so the full review will have to wait till I get the movie on DVD.

That's all I have for now, I am currently working on my first video game review for Assassin's Creed II.

Finally, a children's movie for adults...wait? What!?

Review in Progress...

For this review, I will essentially be righting two different pieces. One reviewing the film's content, and one review the impact on the audience. Thank you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1.

Kid is happy. Kid has hard time. Friendship and love help makes thing better. Happy ending. That is the basic structure of virtually every children's movie that I've seen in my lifetime. They all convey the same ole' feel good story that leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Mr. Spike Jonze gave the genre of children's films a big "F*** YOU," with his adaption of Maurice Sendak's classic, "Where the Wild Things Are." "Where the Wild Things Are" tells the story of Max, a young boy with a very active imagination, and an all too real sense of loneliness. After being fed up with being ignored and feeling unappreciated by his mother, sister, and absent father, a fight involving corn causes Max to run away from home and into the woods. There he discovers a small sailboat and decides to take off onto the sea. On his sea adventure, Max stumbles across an island inhabited by giant hairy monsters. Scared at first, Max engages these monsters who are fighting amongst themselves, and tells them a story of vikings and exploding heads. The monsters then decide to make Max their king in exchange for Max promising to take away all the loneliness. Adventures ensue with wild rumpuses, dirt clog fights, fortress building, and oh...did I mention arms being ripped off and little kids being eaten? Soon Max realized that he couldn't take away all the loneliness and make everyone happy, and then left his kingdom to go back home. Despite failing at his quest, an impression was left with the monsters of the island. Whether they were brought closer together, or torn further apart, we may never know.

Part 2.

As I stated earlier, most children's films share a similiar "feel good" tone. "Where the Wild Things Are" breaks away from the convention and dives into what kids really struggle with. This film has themes of fear, loneliness, being ignored and underappreciated, and general depression. In fact, happy moments in this film don't last any longer than seemingly 5 mintues at a time. And thank God! I predict that there will be alot of controversy over this film concerning whether it's "age appropriate" or just down-right "too dark." The film begins with a close-up, heart throbbing, scary chase scene between a boy in a wild costume and a family dog. The chase ends in a wrestling match that leaves us wondering, "Is that kid hurting the dog?" Right off the bat, violence and fear are being portrayed to the audience. And remember, this film is rated PG.

Throughout the film, fear plays a major role. During an interview, author of the original book, Maurice Sendak, said that he wanted elements of fear in the film, that way the children watching it would feel as if it were more than just some kid's movie. And that it does. "Where the Wild Thing Are" rarely feels like a children's film. Several times, you find yourself worried half to death if Max is going to die. Is the monster going to eat him? Will be crushed by that tree? And luckily due to the great cinemantography and directing, the audience truly feels this fear and connection. Many parents will most likely shield their children from this film. Argueing that it's too dark, anti-religious, or not happy enough. I say that this film should be put on the required viewing list. While Disney conveys themes of love and friendship with happy endings, something every child loves to see, "Where the Wild Thing Are" shows children the rest of the emotional spectrem; emotions that they really do understand. Every child feels lonely and depressed from time to time. And these emotions should not be shielded from them. If you are a parent and don't want your child exposed to these negative feelings, then maybe you shouldn't be letting them sit and watch these action blockbusters whose themes consist of sex and violence.

Heroes Volume Five "Redemption"

The 2 hour season premier of Heroes premiered last night at 7pm. How was it you ask? Simply put...one of the best episodes Heroes has ever had. Season 1 of Heroes was incredible to say the least. Season 2 was great up until the writer's strike cut it down to 11 episodes. Season 3 part 1 lacked trying to catch up where season 2 fell short. Season 3 part 2 showed signs of recovery but was still not up to par. Luckily, the premier of season 4 was more than promising. If the writers can keep this up, I truly believe this could be the best season of Heroes yet.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The end up of Season 3(Volume 4) left us with a dead Nathan, a brainwashed Sylar who thought he was Nathan, an apearantly liquidated(literally) Tracy, a yet again full-powered Peter, and a sickly Hiro. Typical Heroes cliffhangers to say the least. But would Tim Kring have in store in the new season? Well, shall we review?

Rather than explain this in chronological order, I will start off with our beloved characters. Nathan is still dead. True, he has come back from the dead once or twice before, and he may do it again, but for now...it seems that he is pretty damn dead. As part of a sneak peak at the new season, the season 3 finale hinted at Sylar beginning to overcome his brainwashing, and in the season 4 premier, it's starting to get heavy. The subtle memory gaps here and there and bad enough for the ticking time bomb, but it gets really bad when Sylar...I mean Nathan....I mean Sylar...discovers he can move things with his mind and use electric powers. Now, as far as I know, it's unclear if the "new" Nathan knows that he can fly or not...although, I don't think Sylar can fly. So basically he's discovering he has abilities.....shwooo!!! This is confusing. Meanwhile, Peter, one of the biggest protagonist of the series, is finally do the super hero thing and using his powers for good. He had stolen Sylar's ability to steal multiple powers at the end of season 3, so yet again...Peter is BAD-ASS!!! Leaping around buildings like Spiderman, running around like the Flash, and ripping off car doors like Superman, Peter is saving lives as a paramedic. Oh, and after Noah asked for help with someone else that has abilities, Peter jumped at the idea. What's this? Peter has balls?!?!?! This is going to get interesting. Moving on we have one of the most popular characters of the show, Hiro. Hiro and Ando have started a "Dial a Hero" service. So far, their only job was rescuing a cat named Muffin Man, but that's not the big news. Are you ready? Here it is. Hiro is dieing. The headaches, nosebleeds and power-loss is due to some terminal illness not yet specified. Hiro is dieing, and despite knowing where it all started, he refused to change the past due to all the good he was done in his life so far. Pretty damn noble. Moving on we have the oh so hot Claire. Miss teen regenerator has gotten herself a G.E.D. and into college. She has taken on her old name (Bennet) again, and has decided to be herself. Cliche huh? She soon finds herself with a dead roommate and stuck in the middle of a murder mystery. Now who shall we discuss....ah yes, good ole crazy Matt Parkman. After brainwashing Sylar into thinking he was Nathan, Matt vowed to never use his powers again. Unfortunately, upon brainwashing him, Sylar was able to grab hold of Matt's mind using his abilities to understand how things work, and is not living within Matt's thoughts. He constantly appears before Matt and demands to know what happened to his body. I actually greatly appreciate how they writers did this. Well, that's all I got about Matt. Now, one more ole friend of ours, Tracy. the season 3 finale had Tracy shatter into a thousand pieces and then later materialize from water. Holy shit! It is revealed that freezing is just the beginning of her powers. It seems that as she is able to freeze objects, she can also manipulate water and transform into water. Because of this, she is able to pass through pipes and waterlines. Another great advantage that is shown in the season premier, she can not be hurt. As she is attacked, she is able to temporarily transform her body into water, taking on no damage. It's kind of like that guy from Naruto. You know, Sasuke's new teammate.

Alright, I think I covered the big events concerning the older characters. But guess what? There are new hereos in the pictures. Well, they could be villains, it's hard to tell yet. Without getting to deep into the story, basically we have a terrikenitc, an empath, and guy with super speed, and a time-traveler. They appear to be after a compass that looks to only work when held by someone with abilities. Oh, did I mention that the super speed guy has kukri knives!?!?! Awesome huh? Oh, and remember Danko? He's dead.

Well, that's all I got for my at work, no review/edit, no one's going to read this blog...blog. Until next time....Get out!
